The Laker Ruritan Club is a group of neighbors who meet once a month at the Williamsfield Community Center and spend the rest of their time looking for ways to be useful.
We serve the Pymatuning Valley and Joseph Badger communities — two school districts, two counties, and one stretch of rural northeast Ohio that has always had more in common than the county line between them suggests. Our members come from Andover and Williamsfield, from Kinsman and Vernon, and from the townships in between.
Everything we raise here stays here. That is the short version of what this club is.
Our Story
The Laker Ruritan Club was chartered in _______, and the shape of the work has not changed much since. Our members are dedicated to community service, working on multiple fundraisers at a time year-round and always giving back to the local community.
The name comes from the lake, by way of the schools. Pymatuning is the landmark everything around here gets measured from — millions of people come through every year for the water, and the families who stay built their schools, their teams and their sense of place around it. The Pymatuning Valley Local School District took the name first. The club followed.
If you are reading this from the Badger side of the line, the name undersells things, and we know it. Kinsman, Gustavus, Hartford, Vernon and Orangeville are as much this club’s territory as Andover is. The county line runs straight through the middle of what we do, and we have never found a good reason to let it stop us.
